In this performance installation, creator and choreographer Nichole Canuso becomes Alice, a curious wanderer who leads audiences on a guided tour through slippery identity and a sea of unruly memories. Inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and The Windup Bird Chronicles by surrealist novelist Haruki Murakami, Wandering Alice transforms its site into a dreamlike landscape where audiences are free to watch, wander, get lost and be found. An original score by three-time Barrymore Award-Winning composer James Sugg and sound designer Mike Kiley, costumes by Jennifer Goettner, video art by Byron Karabatsos and Lars Jan and a cast of thirteen create a surreal and everchanging adventure for the senses.
“Wandering Alice is imaginative, superbly executed and blissfully illogical”
—Steve Cohen, Broad Street Review
“magical…winsome, wonderful…unexpected, exquisite, at times otherworldly; that we got experience it, too, was like being let in on a secret and promising to keep it to yourself. And you just can’t get that feeling sitting in a theater, removed from the fantasy. Me, I left the show feeling a little lighter.”
—Carolyn Huckabay. The Philadelphia City Paper
